Wall lamps are equipment used in assisting indoor and outdoor lighting. According the installation space and placement, wall lamps can generally be classified into two types: indoor wall lamps and outdoor wall lamps.

The installation positions of home decoration wall lamps are not limited. They can be installed in the bedroom, the lobby, or the light space of a living room. On one hand, they can assist lighting; on the other, they decorate the indoors and create a family atmosphere.

The installation height of indoor and outdoor wall lamps

Outdoor wall lamps mainly refer to those which are installed in corridors, courtyard or other outdoor spaces. Generally, outdoor wall lights are installed 1.8 meters above ground level. While indoor wall lamps are often installed 1.7 - 1.8 meters above floor level.

Indoor wall lamps can be classified into bedroom wall lamps, living room wall lamps, corridor wall lamps, and so on. The installation height of wall lamps at the head of a bed is different from that of other wall lamps in other indoor spaces. Bedroom wall lamps are often installed 0.6 - 1 meter above floor level, while the installation height of wall lamps at the head of a bed is commonly 1.4 - 1.7 meters high. The installation height of wall lamps in a study is by convention 2,240 - 2,265 mm above floor level. With a height like this, the lighting scope of the wall lamp can cover the entire working space.

The installation height of wall lamps changes according to the use of the installation space. Students and the petty bourgeoisie like to read books on the bed. The reading and study do the worst harm to eyes. Therefore, for such use, the light must be soft so as to protect readers' eyes. The installation position of wall lamps is also related to their lighting scope. The height should allow maximum lighting of the user's horizontal line of sight. Generally speaking, wall lamps should be installed in locations a little higher than the user.

Wall lamps in corridors should be installed higher, since the architecture in corridors, passageways or courtyards are a little distant from the ground. If wall lamps are installed too low, the function of assisting lighting is not achieved. Instead, they become a mere decoration.
